Tip: Celebrate National Payroll Week!

September 5-9, 2016

Author: Jody Rodney/Wednesday, August 31, 2016/Categories: News

The American Payroll Association (APA) founded National Payroll Week (NPW) in 1996 to increase awareness of the payroll and payroll accounting processes.  NPW is a national campaign to help America’s workers understand more about their paychecks, the payroll withholding system and other payroll-driven benefits. NPW is celebrating the 21st consecutive year and ADP is once again the sole Diamond Sponsor of NPW.

NPW coincides with the celebration of Labor Day to recognize the important contributions of the people who work to support the American Dream.  It highlights the partnership between taxpayers and payroll professionals.

National Payroll Week celebrates the hard work by America’s 150 million wage earners and the payroll professionals who pay them.  The APA represents residents and businesses across the United States.  These taxpayers and businesses contribute approximately $2.2 trillion to the U.S. Treasury through the payroll tax withholding system each year.  In addition, employers play an increasingly important role in the enforcement of child support laws by calculating and deducting child support payments from workers' pay.

The theme of National Payroll Week is AMERICA WORKS BECAUSE WE’RE WORKING FOR AMERICA®.  The collection, reporting and payment of payroll taxes by employers are a positive example of what works in America.  During NPW, local APA chapters and members host presentations to school and civic groups, participate in community service initiatives, and use local media to pass along information to today’s workers and the workers of tomorrow.

During Money Matters National Education Day, September 8, 2016, payroll professionals from across the country will unite to stop the spread of financial illiteracy.  Volunteer payroll professionals will teach local high school students in their communities the ins-and-outs of their paychecks, electronic payment methods like direct deposit and pay cards, and the payroll withholding system.

Please join us in supporting NPW and taking an important step to recognize and celebrate the contributions of workers in the United States and the payroll professionals who report these workers' earnings, collect their taxes and pay their wages.
