U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has made minor changes to Form I-9 (Employment Eligibility Verification). The revised Form I-9 has an edition date of Jan. 20, 2025, and an expiration date of May 31, 2027, and is now available for download.
Employers may use the updated version of the form (Jan. 20, 2025 edition date) or one of the following editions that remains valid until its respective expiration date:
By way of background, the Form I-9 is used to verify a new hire's identity and work authorization. All employers must ensure that a Form I-9 is properly completed and retained for each employee at the time of hire. The expiration date of the form can be found in the upper right-hand corner of it.
The latest updates to the form include:
E-Verify and E-Verify+ have been updated so that the Citizenship Status selection during case creation reflect this statutory language. The selection “A noncitizen authorized to work” will be updated to “An alien authorized to work.”
