Be safe on the roads this holiday season

As the holiday season approaches, we would like to share a few reminders for how to stay safe while driving so you can travel safely to celebrate this special time with your loved ones. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that over 36,000 people were killed on U.S. roadways in 2019. Motor vehicle crashes are also the #1 cause of workplace death according to the National Safety Council.

Here’s some tips on how to stay safe while driving.

1.     Do not drive while impaired. Alcohol contributed to over 10,000 crash deaths in 2019.

2.     Avoid distractions. At 55 mph, taking your eyes off the road to use a cell phone is like driving the length of an entire football field with your eyes closed.

3.     Be prepared. Plan out your route and check weather conditions before heading out. Leave early and plan ahead for heavy traffic during holiday times. It’s also a good idea to prepare your car for winter and keep an emergency preparedness kit in the vehicle.

4.     Get plenty of rest before a travel day to avoid drowsy driving.

5.     Buckle up! Wearing seat belts prevents injuries and deaths every day.

Share these tips with a holiday message to your employees to let them know you care about their safety. Raising awareness and taking simple precautions can help everyone at your workplace go home from work safely and enjoy the holiday season.
