Author: ADP Admin/Monday, March 30, 2020/Categories: Compliance Corner

We know you’ve got a lot on your plate right now, and we want to help make compliance easy. That’s why we’re writing to notify you that the Vermont State Tax Department recently confirmed new tax withholding requirements. ADP® has already made system modifications to comply with these changes for payrolls processed on March 12, 2020, and beyond.

Read on to find out what you need to know about the changes.

Details

Previously, employees could use the federal Form W-4 to determine Vermont personal income tax withholding. You should continue to use these existing elections for employees who were hired before Jan. 1, 2020.

For all employees hired after Jan. 1, 2020, Vermont has advised the following:

·       The federal Form W-4 will be used for federal income tax withholding only.

·       For every federal Form W-4 you receive, a Vermont Form W-4VT must be completed.

·       If an employee does not submit a Vermont Form W-4VT when submitting a federal 2020 Form W-4, withhold using “Single” with zero allowances.
