Effective Date: January 1, 2019

Details:

Beginning January 1, 2019, large employers (defined as those with annual gross revenue of $500,000 or more) must pay non-exempt employees in Minnesota at least $9.86 per hour. The minimum wage for smaller employers will be $8.04 per hour.

Regardless of size, employers may pay a minimum wage of $8.04 per hour to workers under the age of 20 during their first 90 days of employment (training wage) and to workers under the age of 18 (youth wage).

Note: The state minimum-wage rates will not apply to work performed in the city of Minneapolis, which has a higher minimum wage.

Call to Action: Minnesota employers must meet the new minimum wage requirements by January 1, 2019 and post an updated minimum wage notice in a conspicuous area of the workplace. The State of Minnesota has not yet published the required updated minimum wage notice.
