Montana Increases Minimum Wage

Overview: The Montana minimum wage will increase to $8.50 per hour on January 1, 2019. Except for a few very narrow exceptions, all non-exempt employees must be paid at least $8.50 per hour.

Background:
Each year, Montana adjusts its minimum wage based on changes to the Consumer Price Index (CPI). The CPI is published by the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics and is a measure of the average change in prices over time in a fixed "market basket" of goods and services.
Tipped Employees:
Tipped employees must receive the full minimum wage. Montana doesn't permit employers to take a tip credit.
