Vermont’s minimum wage will increase to $10.78 per hour on January 1, 2019. The change is a result of an adjustment for inflation.
Tipped Employees:
Service and tipped employees must receive a direct cash wage of at least $5.39 per hour. If the employee’s direct cash wages and tips fail to meet or exceed $10.78 per hour in 2019, the employer must make up the difference. Service and tipped employees are individuals who customarily and regularly receive more than $120 a month in tips for direct and personal service, working in industries such as hotels, tourist attractions, or restaurants.
Call to Action:
Beginning January 1, 2019, Vermont employers must pay all non-exempt employees at least $10.78 per hour and all tipped employees at least $5.39 per hour. Vermont employers must also post an updated minimum wage poster by January 1, 2019. The updated poster is available for download here.
