This notice is to inform you about the changes regarding employee’s marital status information. Under the Utah law, an employee is required to use the same marital status for both federal and state income tax withholding elections.
Beginning June 9, 2022, ADP® will use employees’ federal marital status for state withholding in Utah. Employees will not be permitted to elect a different marital status for state income tax withholding in Utah than they have elected for federal withholding purposes. Any changes to marital status must be made using IRS Form W-4 and will be effective for both federal and Utah income tax withholding.
Any employees who currently have elected a marital status in Utah that differs from federal will be updated so that the federal marital status will be used for both federal and Utah income tax withholding calculations. This change will take effect for payrolls processed on or after June 9, 2022.
