Michigan Paid Medical Leave Act

Michigan has signed into law Senate Bill 1175 (Paid Medical Leave Act), requiring employers in the state that employ 50 or more employees to begin providing covered employees with paid medical leave effective March 29, 2019.

OSHA Finalizes Electronic Recordkeeping

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has issued a final rule that eliminates the requirement for employers with 250 or more employees to electronically submit information from OSHA Form 300 (Log of Work-Related Injuries and Illnesses) and OSHA Form 301 (Injury and Illness Incident Report) to OSHA each year. The final rule took effect on February 25, 2019.

The United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has announced that the Employer Information Report EEO-1, commonly known as the EEO-1 Report opening and deadline for submission has been extended.

2018 Versions of Publications 502 and 503 Released by the IRS

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has released the latest version of Publication 502, which describes what medical expenses are deductible by taxpayers on their 2018 federal income tax returns.  The latest version of Publication 503 was also released. It describes the tests a taxpayer must meet in order to claim the credit for child and dependent-care expenses, and explains how to calculate and claim the credit.

Washington State Launches Family and Medical Leave Insurance Program Website

Washington State Governor, Jay Inslee, signed into law Substitute Senate Bill 5975 (S5975), which creates the Family and Medical Leave Insurance Program effective January 1, 2020. The Washington Employment Security Department (ESD) has launched a new website to provide guidance to employers, workers and healthcare providers on the new paid family and medical leave insurance program.

Michigan Announces Date of Minimum Wage Increase

On January 2, 2019, Michigan announced that the effective date of the minimum wage increase to $9.45 per hour will be March 29, 2019. The minimum cash wage required to be paid to tipped employees will increase to $3.59 on this same date.
